Teaching Career

It is quoted in the opera world: "Noëlle Rogers made it to the top and then disappeared".

During those years of "disappearance" she was living and traveling abroad with her son. At this time she made her home in Frankfurt, Berlin, Milan and Rome and transitioned into a second career, that of a professional singing teacher, studying extensively in addition to her professional experience. It became apparent that she had a talent for guiding singers correctly and became known for the outstanding results singers experienced with her teaching.

Her son was six when they moved to Europe. During this period her son attended a German and an Italian school in both countries. He later attended the University of Pavia. It was decided that he would continue his university studies in New York, his native city. On his way back to New York, he visited a friend in Tampa, Florida, got a job, attended summer school at University of South Florida, was offered a scholarship and stayed there.

When "9-ll" occurred, Noëlle was still in Italy. Due to this national disaster, she decided to move to Florida to be near her son. She was offered a position at the University of Tampa, flew from Italy, arriving in Tampa at 2:00 in the morning, walked into the university at 8:00 am, met her new bosses, took her seat in her room and is still there, 6 years later. It was not her intention to stay at the University, but she has become a very popular and loved teacher and her students won't let her leave. They have awarded her “Professor of the Year” and the semester appraisals of teachers consistently praise her as a teacher and person. Her boss told her that she has accomplished something that had never happened before at the University—she received a perfect score from every one of her students.

Here are some of the comments that were written along with these appraisals:

"This Professor..."
"This Professor has changed my life and has given me back the joy of singing. She has inspired me in my music and in ways I never thought possible. She is loved by everyone."
...We love her."
"The best! She really cares about me and my voice! She knows about the voice. She has had a big career and shares her vast knowledge with us. We love her."
"...is amazing..."
"Professor Noëlle is amazing and has done wonders for my voice! She really knows her craft. I never believed that I would sing like this!"
"...Godsend..."
"Noëlle is a Godsend to the music department of the University. I have learned more about singing this year and seen more positive results than in all the years of my previous training. I don't want to be without her and hope she comes to New York next year so I can have her with me while I sing there."
"...She inspires."
"This professor saved my voice. I was in vocal trouble. Now I am singing leads in the musicals and my voice is healthy and strong. She knows. She imparts. She inspires."
"I never thought..."
"I never thought I would find a professional like this at UT. She makes us work hard, but we don't mind because we are so happy with the amazing results. She is a teacher who is committed, devoted, constantly striving for the highest quality. She has also helped me know how to be more professional, handle nerves, relationships, attitudes, and all the aspects of performing."
"...extremely skilled..."
"This instructor is extremely skilled and knowledgeable and has an incredible concern for helping her students grow as singers and artists."
"...teacher and mentor..."
"Noëlle is the best teacher and mentor I have ever had. She can work miracles. She finds each student's different learning style and need, allowing us to learn on an easier level. She has the patience of a saint and goes well above and beyond the call of duty as a professor and a person. She cares about her students in a way I have never seen a professor do. Last year, my first semester with her, I couldn't carry a tune. After one and a half semesters with her, I landed a leading role in a UT musical. Simply put, Noëlle is amazing and has had a tremendous impact on my life, both professionally and personally."
"...feel blessed..."
"Noëlle is a phenomenal voice teacher. She presents techniques that really work. She is concerned with the student's success. I have come such a long way! I feel blessed to be studying with such a wonderful voice teacher. I also feel blessed just to have met her. She is a wonderful teacher and person."
"...heart and soul..."
"I absolutely love this teacher. She is the heart and soul of many students in the music department. As an instructor, she is amazing. She makes you believe in your talent. She keeps you motivated and is positive. She has already corrected the vocal damage that another teacher inflicted and when the doctor saw the healing effect of her teaching, he wanted to know who this teacher was. Noëlle, thank you, thank you, thank you."
"...another voice..."
"When I came to her I was angry that another voice teacher had taught me incorrectly and caused me vocal trouble. She made me stop being angry, wanted me to forgive and move on working objectively to get it right. She has done more for me than anyone. I am performing with a different voice and a different attitude. Noëlle, I want to always be your student. Please move to New York when I go."
"...outstanding instruction..."
"This is outstanding instruction. She really makes a difference in voices. She can get anyone to sing. She changes attitudes. She is a pro and KNOWS and passes it on to us. If it were not for her, I would not be in Cabaret this semester or have my voice where it is right now."
"...selfless kindness..."
"Noëlle treats everyone fairly and with selfless kindness. She goes above and beyond what one would expect of a professor. She is the best. I love going to my lessons"

Personal Comment :

I have to say that until the preparation of the documentation of these appraisals here presented, I had not read these dear accounts. Just as I rarely read my reviews as a singer, nor did I collect them. The reviews that I did manage to obtain were collected by fans and forwarded to me.

Of these lovely appraisals, there are many pages more and not one negative comment. I won't list more of them – it is getting a little embarrassing. I want to thank my dear students for their kind remarks and to let them know that it is and has been my joy to work with them and witness the improvements in their singing and professionalism.

Teaching is a special profession and I love it. I shall also add that I love my University and the faculty I am associated with. It is a privilege and a joy to participate in this University environment.
